World Cup Results: Germany Fails to Top 16 After Beating Costa Rica 4-2

After winning 2-1 over Germany, Costa Rica had to swallow the bitter pill. Der Panzer (the nickname of the German national team) was able to seal a 4-2 victory over Costa Rica. It's just that this result has not been able to bring Germany to the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup, after in another match Japan was able to crush Spain 2-1.

First round

Entering the 52nd minute, Costa Rica threatened through Yeltsin Tijeda's shot. But still managed to secure Manuel Neuer.
Group E really deserves to be called the death group. In other matches, Japan was surprisingly able to make a 2-1 comeback over Spain.
That means, Germany must score six more goals to be able to crawl into the position of group runners-up, to be able to catch Spain's goal difference. This was even more complicated because Costa Rica dared to appear open throughout the second half.
Surprisingly, Costa Rica's open play initiative paid off in the 58th minute. Yeltsin Tijeda grabbed the rebound from Kendall Waston's kick, the score changed to 1-1 and Germany was in danger.
The match became more exciting when Germany increased the intensity of the attacks. Two minutes later, Jamal Musiala created a golden opportunity, but unfortunately his shot hit the post.
62 minutes, Germany again hit bad luck. Antonio Rudiger's shot following Joshua Kimmich's cross again hit the goalpost.
The goddess of fortune seemed reluctant to approach Germany. Jamal Musiala's shot hit the Costa Rica goalpost again in the 67th minute, the score still remained 1-1.

Keylor Navas made a heroic save in the 75th minute. Niclas Fullkrug almost turned things around when he copied Leroy Sane's cross, but was quickly thwarted by Keylor Navas.
Germany still hasn't given up. Kai Havertz turned the position around to 3-2 after cheating on the ball from Serge Gnabry's pass in the 85th minute
But Germany still has to score seven more goals to qualify for the round of 16! With five minutes remaining, Hansi Flick's team can only hope that results in other matches are in their favor.
Niclas Fullkrug again opened Germany's hopes in the 88th minute. His header managed to widen the distance to 4-2.
Germany was also eliminated from the 2022 World Cup. The team nicknamed Die Manschaaft had to pick up their suitcases after the 4-2 score lasted until the game was over.
Meanwhile, Japan made sure to qualify for the round of 16. The team nicknamed Samurai Blue qualified for the knockout stages as group winners, along with Spain.
