Mexico won 2-1 over Saudi Arabia in the final Group C match for the 2022 World Cup at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, Thursday (1/12) early morning WIB.

Mexico and Saudi Arabia drew 0-0 in the first half. Mexico dominated the game and chances, but Saudi Arabia defended well.

Mexico did not waste the opportunity to excel at the start of the second half. In the 47th minute Henry Martin broke into Mohammed Al Owais' goal.

The goal came from a Luis Chavez corner which was continued by Cesar Montes with a right-footed shot. The ball rolls in front of Saudi Arabia's goal. From behind Martin came and put the ball into Al Owais' goal.

Opportunity for Mexico to double the position again came in the 51st minute after Hassan Altambakti violated Henry Martin in the middle of the Saudi Arabia playing field.

The free kick was well executed by Luis Chavez. Chavez scored a spectacular free kick in the 52nd minute.

Chavez's left-footed shot from long distance curved beautifully into the top left corner of the Saudi Arabia goal without Al Owais being able to reach it.

Saudi Arabia looked to score to reduce the gap, but Al Ghanam's header in the 55th minute went just wide.

Hirving Lozano could score in the 56th minute. However, the linesman raised the flag for offside. Lozano protested to the linesman.

Hirving Lozano tried his luck by firing a shot from outside the penalty box in the 67th minute, but was driven out by Mohammed Al Owais.

Al Owais made an important save by saving Luis Chavez's free kick in the 73rd minute.

In the 76th minute Pineda wasted the opportunity for Mexico to lead 3-0. Pineda had the right moment to add to El Tri's goal, but his right foot shot from outside the penalty box was narrowly sideways on the left side of the Saudi Arabia goal.

Substitute Carlos Untuna scored the third goal for Mexico in that match. But the goal was again disallowed for offside.

A new goal from Saudi Arabia was created in injury time through Salem Al Dawsari in the 90+6th minute after taking advantage of Hattan Sultan Babhir's assist. The 2-1 score for Mexico's victory did not change until the game was over.

Despite winning over Saudi Arabia, Mexico failed to qualify for the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup due to losing on goal difference to Poland. Argentina and Poland qualify for the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.
