Portugal succeeded in silencing Switzerland with a landslide score of 6-1 in the top 16 match for the 2022 World Cup which was held at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, Wednesday (7/12/2022) early morning WIB.

Goncalo Ramos became the hero of Portugal's victory by buying up three goals, aka a hat-trick . Ramos incidentally became the starter displacing Cristiano Ronaldo who started the game from the bench.

The other three goals for Portugal each were created by Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao. Meanwhile, Switzerland managed to reduce the lag thanks to a goal by Manuel Akanji.

Thanks to this result, Portugal has the right to qualify for the quarter-finals to face Morocco on Saturday (10/12/2022) evening WIB. Meanwhile, the Swiss had to pack their suitcases.

First round

Appearing without Ronaldo, Portugal dominated ball possession early in the first half. However, there are still no dangerous opportunities produced by the two teams.

Portugal was only able to open the scoring in the 17th minute through Ramos' action. Receiving Joao Felix's assist, the 21-year-old striker fired a rocket shot that hit the top corner of Yann Sommer's goal.

Portugal successfully doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute. This time it was veteran defender Pepe's turn to get his name on the scoreboard with a header following Bruno Fernandes' corner kick.

Second round

Back from the locker room, Portugal continued their dominance. Ramos scored his second goal in the 51st minute before Guerreiro's goal was added four minutes later.

In the 58th minute, Switzerland reduced the lag through Akanji's close-range shot taking advantage of a corner kick which had hit another player.

Ramos became a sensation in this match. The bomber from Benfica became the first player to score a hat-trick at the 2022 World Cup after scoring his third goal in the 67th minute.

Coach Fernando Santos just entered Cristiano Ronaldo in the 74th minute. The 37-year-old player scored a goal but it was disallowed for offside.

Entering injury time, Rafael Leao scored to complete Portugal's 6-1 win.
